VIDEO: Police car ploughs into tree in Doncaster

A police officer has been taken to hospital after their patrol car ploughed into a tree into Doncaster.

The incident happened at just after 1pm on Jossey Lane at Scawthorpe when the South Yorkshire Police Vauxhall Astra collided with the tree.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed receiving a report at 1.07pm from the ambulance service about the incident which forced the road to be closed for a time.

It is not thought that the injuries suffered by the driver are serious.

Jossey Lane was closed between Amersall Road and Springcroft Drive while paramedics and recovery crews removed the vehicle on the back of a low loader.

Other police officers directed traffic around the scene. The vehicle had suffered damage to its driver’s side front wing with pieces of the tree embedded within the wreckage.

Broken glass and twisted metal was also visible around the trunk of the tree and a gouge was also clearly visible within the wood.

The airbags of the patrol car had also been deployed.

The number 54 First bus service was diverted during the incident.
