Guests and staff were led to safety and watched on from the car park as fire officers entered the building to tackle the flames before they spread throughout the building.

No one was injured in the fire and an investigation is now under way, with police and fire crews remaining at the hotel throughout much of the day while they try to piece together what happened.

A spokesman for Premier Inn said: “I can confirm that the emergency services were called to an isolated fire in the hotel.

"No guests were present in the room at the time, and the hotel was safely evacuated by the team.

"We are now assisting the fire brigade while they carry out their investigations.”
