VIDEO: How Doncaster town centre looked in the 1950s

This amazing film shows how Doncaster town centre looked exactly 60 years ago.

The archive black and white footage, which has been uploaded to video sharing website YouTube and seen more than 12,000 times, shows a car journey around Doncaster in 1956 and shows familiar sights such as the Mansion House, Clock Corner and Town Moor and the town centre.

The remarkable cine footage, shot by Doncaster dentist Peter Robinson, shows the view from the windscreen as the car travels along Town Moor Avenue, Thorne Road and Hall Gate into the town centre and along High Street to Clock Corner.

There are distinctly less vehicles on the roads than today - and the trees along Town Moor Avenue look much less leafier than they do in 2016!

A post accompanying the 90 second clip from Andrew Robinson says: A journey along Town Moor, Thorne Road, Hallgate and the centre of Doncaster, shot on cine film in the 1950s by Peter B Robinson (Dental Surgeon)."
