A Hatfield man won the Race Stock Pro race at the European Jet Ski Championships this morning.
Brad Rickarby, 20, took first place in the fourth race of the day, despite losing part of his engine during the race!
This is the second day of the championships which are being held at Doncaster Lakeside.
Brad said: “I didn’t have the best start, because of the mechanical difficulties. This is the first time I’ve ever raced in Doncaster at this level and I’m proud to have won on home ground. I just hope I continue to do well in my other races!”
This follows Brad notching up third place in the British championships, also held at the Lakeside, in June.
The championship, which has competitors from 21 different European countries, has not been held in the UK since 2007.
Racing continues tomorrow, and the championship closes with an awards ceremony tomorrow night at 7pm.
It is hoped the Euro Jet Ski Championships will help to boost the local economy,
A spokesperson for the Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust said: “Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust is happy to support excellence throughout Doncaster and what better way, than to welcome the European Jet Ski Championship to the region.
For Doncaster to hold such a large event really puts us on the map for things to see and do in South Yorkshire; it is fantastic for Doncaster and DCLT are proud to be a part of it.”
