Write Doncaster Rovers Belles off at your peril.

That’s the message from the club’s marquee signing Natasha Dowie.

Dowie, 27, linked up with her new teammates for the first time last week for pre-season training ahead of Belles’ return to FAWSL1.

And the former Everton and Liverpool striker is adamant that her new club will not be going into the top flight to simply make up the numbers.

“I think a lot of people will be writing us off this season,” said Dowie.

“But I’ve come here to be competitive and to win trophies. I’m a winner and a lot of the girls here are too.

“I’ve come to this club to help them to do as well as they can.

“And I’m here to score goals.

“Every club that I’ve been at, I’ve always been top goalscorer and I want to bring that to Donny.

“So I’m just excited about getting in and individually performing to my maximum and helping the new players that are going full time to perform to their max as well. With my experience, hopefully I can do that.”

Dowie is likely to be partnered in attack with Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, who netted 25 goals in all competitions last season. And she believes that the pair can work very well together.

“Courtney is someone that I’m really excited about playing with.” said Dowie, who has just returned to England following a spell with Australian club Melbourne Victory.

“Her goalscoring record doesn’t lie, she’s got real pace and she’s a really exciting player.

“Hopefully, she’s excited about playing up top with me as well and I think I’ve got quite a lot of experience to share with her.

“I’ve played in the top division now for many years and I want to push her on as well.

“It’s really exciting times,” she added. “I can’t wait to get started.

“I feel like I’ve been part of the team for years now and that’s why I came here, because I knew the team spirit that they had here and the quality of players and the history of the club.

“I feel honoured to be a part of Donny Belles.”
