Video: Doncaster Rovers deny kit competition fraud after Louis Tomlinson is announced as winner

The club has this afternoon issued a statement over claims made by Doncaster Rovers fans that a competition to design next season's away kit was 'rigged' to allow One Direction star, Louis Tomlinson, to win.

A spokesperson for Doncaster Rovers said: “The process for receiving kit designs, shortlisting and the public voting for our kit design competition followed strict legal guidance to ensure that the club adhered to competition law and that all processes were fair.

“We are aware that the result of the competition has attracted some mixed feedback, but we can assure our fans that the voting process for the 2016/17 shirt designs was all was fair and above board.”

Many fans have claimed the competition was 'fixed' in order to use the 24-year-old's global status as a member of One Direction to sell more shirts.

The club stated yesterday that Louis' design, featuring black and grey stripes accented with a red trim over the shoulders, received 33.7 of the votes when it was put to the public in February. The identity of shortlisted designers was kept secret until the winner was announced.
