VIDEO: Day centre, the islanders, celebrate first independent year

An day centre which supports adults with learning disabilities has celebrated a year since it opened its doors as an independent centre.

The Islanders, based in Crowle Community Hall, which offers day time care for anyone aged 18 or above used to be run by North Lincolnshire Council

The centre runs a variety of weekly activities, including crafts, walks, ten pin bowling, music and keep fit sessions.

Gary Hepworth, who runs the centre with Sandra Malaspina, said: “It’s nice to get to the first year. We would like to thank everyone who’s been involved. The family and users have been very supportive.

“When you first start something you don’t know if it’s going to work out, but now we feel confident we are well established and we hope to continue for many years to come.”

To celebrate the milestone, users and staff played party games and enjoyed a buffet.
