The initial bid, including letters of support and survey feedback from the community, was submitted to the Department for Education at the end of January.

If accepted, the DfE will invite representatives of the proposal, including Doncaster Chamber, to an interview in London to further demonstrate the case for the college.

Chamber bosses said it is crucial for the momentum of support to continue to further evidence the town’s need and they are urging members of the public to record 30 second soundbites expressing their support for the proposal.

A number of supporters have already recorded their soundbites and they can be viewed on the Chamber’s Youtube channel.

Dan Fell, chief executive officer of the chamber, said: “The college will allow students to benefit from the expertise of local businesses, vocational education experts and universities and will specialise in advanced engineering, manufacturing, digital design and rail, with direct links into careers and further study.”

Ministers will announce their decision on the project in mid-May.

Project leaders hope the UTC will then be ready to open its doors in September 2018.
