Dramatic footage of a car ablaze in Doncaster this afternoon has been captured on camera.
The film was shot by Doncaster Free Press reader James Thompson at around 3.30pm and shows a vehicle going up in flames at the bottom of Bentley Road near the junction with St George’s Bridge.
A huge plume of smoke was visible although traffic appeared to be flowing normally around the scene of the drama.
Firefighters were called out to York Road, Bentley at approximately 3.30pm
Watch manager at Adwick Fire Station, Steve Dodge, said of the incident: “The man had just dropped his wife off to work in Bentley. He was driving along when he saw smoke coming out of his bonnet. He pulled over, lifted it up and the bonnet went up in flames. The whole car was alight when we arrived on the scene. He was parked near the traffic lights, so there was one set of lights out by the roundabout as we extinguished the fire, which created a bit of a traffic back log.”
One engine from Adwick station was sent to the scene, and firefighters left at approximately 4pm after putting out the blaze.
