Vandals are targeting vehicles in Doncaster villages

Crime figures released by South Yorkshire Police this week show a steep increase in push bike theft and damage to vehicles in north Doncaster.

While crime has dropped overall by 1.2 per cent, in Bentley, Toll Bar, Scawthorpe, Arksey and Almholme, instances of damage to motor vehicles has increased by 47 per cent and push bike theft has risen by 37 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Sgt Andy Clark said officers had responded to the increase in push-bike theft by performing stop-searches of cyclists in the north Doncaster area.

Complaints about nuisance neighbours in the area has also increased by 17 per cent.

The figures, which were revealed at a community meeting with police and residents compared instances of crime between April and December 2012 to the same period this year.
