UPDATED: Motorist taken to hospital after serious collision with lorry closes major road

The collision happened about 3am today on Doncaster Road, Hampole, with police, paramedics and firefighters called to the scene.
Four fire engines were on the scene for more than two hours, as crews from three Doncaster fire stations worked to free the motorist who was initially trapped in their car.

Hide AdIt is understood the motorist was taken by ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary.
The incident happened on the border beween South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, and officers from West Yorkshire Police are today investing what happened in the incident.
Officers from the force have put out an appeal for any witnesses to come forward to help determine the cause of what they described as a serious road traffic collision
They said in a statement: “At around 2:55am on Saturday 5 June, a Red Honda Civic was travelling on Doncaster Road away from Hampole towards North Elmsall.

Hide Ad“There was a collision between the car and an HGV on the roundabout junction of Doncaster Road and Field Lane.
“Emergency services attended the scene.
“The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment and he remains in hospital at this time.
“Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision or any further information and dashcam footage. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police via 101 quoting log number 261 of 5 June.”
