Trains have been delayed and nearby residents told to close windows and doors following explosions at an industrial fire in Doncaster.

Four fire engines are now at the scene on Albion Terrace, Hexthorpe, after firefighters were called at 8.10am.

The South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service aerial platform ladder is also at the scene.

A fire service spokesman said: “It is a single storey building which is well alight. Fire fighters in breathing apparatus are out there.

“Trains are being affected because of the smoke.

“Anyone in properties in the area, we would urge them to close their windows and doors.”

National Rail Inquiries says there are 30 minute delays on the trains due to a line-side fire.

The plume of smoke can be seen for several miles.
