Motorists escaped without serious injuries after a nine-vehicle collision on the M1 in South Yorkshire this morning.
The collision happened on the northbound stretch of the motorway at Junction 36 for Birdwell, Barnsley, at around 7.05am.
It blocked the road while police, firefighters and paramedics dealt with the incident.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Emergency services were called at around 7.05am this morning following reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the M1 northbound carriageway near junction 36.
"The vehicles believed to be involved include a blue Ford Mondeo, a grey Nissan Juke, a blue Vauxhall Astra, a black Volvo estate, a red Peugeot, a black Renault Clio, a red Ford Fiesta, a silver BMW 3 series and a black Ford Focus.
"Nobody is believed to have been injured."
