Today Doncaster waved farewell to the iconic InterCity 125 as the locomotive celebrates its 40 years of service with a farewell tour.

The train, painted in its original British Rail InterCity 125 livery, passed through Doncaster Station at around 11.40am this morning (December 21).

It’s final journey sees the famous East Coast locomotive embark on a four-day special service taking in the majority of destinations along the LNER route.

Enthusiasts gathered at the station to celebrate the service of the InterCity 125.

The tour began on Wednesday 18 December and travelled from Edinburgh to Aberdeen to Inverness. The second day saw the farewell service depart Inverness for Edinburgh with day three covering Edinburgh, Newcastle, York and Leeds.

Today’s journey is the final stretch, stopping at all stations from Leeds to London King’s Cross.

Money raised from the tour will go towards LNER partner charity, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
