A spokesman for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said two people who had tested positive for coronavirus had died, bringing the Trust’s total to 240.

A statement said: “We can sadly confirm that two patients, who had tested positive for the disease, have passed away and we share our deepest sympathies with their respective friends, family and loved ones.

"This is a slight drop from yesterday.”

The announcement comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that Doncaster and the rest of South Yorkshire was being placed into Tier 2 coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

Along with the rest of South Yorkshire, it means that people from different households will be banned from mixing in social settings but pubs and restaurants will remain open.

Liverpool has been placed into Tier 3, the highest level setting where all social mixing is banned with the closure of pubs.

It is the only place in England to have been placed at that level currently.

People have been urged to continue to follow the rules and a health chief spokesman said: “Please remember hands, face and space, continue offering your amazing support.”
