Outwood Academy Adwick scored top ratings in all areas in its latest inspection carried out by the education standards watchdog.

It was a stark contrast to a previous report that said the school ‘required improvement’.

The previous report stated quality of teaching and pupil achievement was not good enough and standards needed improving.

But a remarkable turnaround saw all categories receive the highest rating that can be given by Ofsted.

The ‘outstanding’ rating tops a remarkable year for the school after it achieved record GCSE results.

The academy has also been rated as top out of 55 similar schools in the Department for Education’s Performance Tables, which were published last month.

Sir Michael Wilkins, Academy Principal and Chief Executive of Outwood Grange Academies Trust, said: “I am absolutely delighted for students, staff and governors at Outwood Academy Adwick.”

The school’s boss hailed the outstanding Ofsted grading as ‘thoroughly deserved’ and reflective of ‘many years of hard work’ by all.

Ofsted also praised the ‘exceptional leadership’ of Martyn Oliver, regional chief executive, and Carolyn Blundell, principal at the academy.

The Trust also praised the Academy Council, chaired by Doncaster councillor John Mounsey, after Ofsted recognised members of the governing body for their engagement with pupils.

The report read: “Through their impressive dedication and local knowledge, they offer a very high level of support and challenge to the school’s pupils.”

Ofsted inspectors praised the quality of teaching after dramatic turnaround in the area. They said teaching was ‘superb’ and ‘inspirational’.

Inspectors said: “Teachers are dedicated, caring and meticulous in ensuring that the needs of pupils are met, underpinned by pupils who are well-mannered, mature and eager to do their very best in lessons.”

The report added: “Pupils are proud of their school and appreciative of the caring adults who go out of their way to ensure that pupils’ welfare is given top priority.

“As one pupil put it: ‘They really, truly care about us’.”
