“Tony worked tirelessly for his Armthorpe community over the years, was a highly valued and important member of our cabinet and represented the council on numerous committees and outside bodies. Tony was a great public servant who will be dearly missed.”

Fellow Armthorpe ward councillors Sue and Chris McGuinness, said in a joint statement: “It is only in recent weeks that the seriousness of Tony’s health problems became apparent, and we know his passing has come as a shock to many people.

"This is understandable when we reflect on the many years Tony has been involved in Armthorpe affairs as a Parish Councillor, Ward Councillor, school governor or his involvement with community groups such as the Junior Football Club and Miners Memorial Garden.

“No matter what Tony was involved in he was very much a family man and we hope his family can take some comfort that so many people have expressed their sadness at his passing. He will be missed by many, not least, the family he was so proud of.”

He represented Doncaster Council and his community on numerous committees and bodies, ranging from Amrthorpe Miners Welfare Scheme to the Doncaster Council's cabinet.
