Doncaster drivers are experiencing significant delays this evening, after problems with a faulty fire hydrant have led to a lane closure on a busy town centre road. One lane of Trafford Way, located after the Frenchgate underpass close to Cleveland Street, is currently closed as Doncaster council carries out repair work on the hydrant which is expected to take a number of hours.
A council spokesman said: “Contractors are currently undertaking repairs on the hydrant, which is in the town centre, and one lane of Trafford Way is currently closed.
They continued: “In such a prominent location in the centre of Doncaster, it is expected that this lane closure will have a significant impact on traffic levels, particularly due to the close proximity to the St. George’s Bridge roadworks.
“It is recommended that drivers use different routes where possible to avoid this area, as repair work is expected to run into the evening.
