With snow forecast for most of the day and a weather warning in place, the force is urging to people to only travel if necessary.
In a tweet, the force said: “It is set to snow all day today and there is already a blanket covering of snow on a lot of roads in South Yorkshire.
“Please only travel if you really do need to, and if you do, take extra care.”
