Snow is causing chaos as roads are closed, trams are suspended and buses are diverted in South Yorkshire this morning.

A heavy blanket of snow across most of the county this morning has left many roads treacherous.

Gritters are working but South Yorkshire Police has described driving conditions as ‘very hazardous’.

Superintendent Paul McCurry said the A628 and A616 are particularly bad.

Warren Vale in Swinton is closed from Rawmarsh Hill to Warren Vale and Blackamoor Road because of a number of vehicles blocking the road.

In Sheffield, traffic built up after a bus became stuck in snow at the bottom of Carrfield Avenue in Heeley earlier this morning.

Earlier today, some trams in Sheffield were suspended because of vehicles blocking the tracks on Ridgeway Road.

Stagecoach Supertram said its blue and purple route services were affected but they have now started running again to Halfway and Herdings Park.

A number of buses operated by First South Yorkshire have been affected by the snow.

In Sheffield, services 8 and 8a to Crystal Peaks are terminating at Manor Top.

Services 9 and 9a to Littledale, Darnall, is not serving the estate.

The 11 and 11a services to High Green and Chapeltown are unable to use Blackstock Road, Gleadless Valley.

The 24 to Woodhouse and Bradway is unable to use Spinkhill Avenue.

First’s 25 service from Woodhouse to Bradway is not serving Chadwick Road or Spa Lane.

The 52a to Wisewood and Hillsborough, Sheffield, is terminating at Broomhill. It is running between Woodhouse, the city and Broomhill but is not able to serve Crookes, Hillsborough, Wisewood or Loxley.

The 56 to Wybourn is terminating in the city centre.

The 75, 76 and 76a to Shiregreen are terminating at Firth Park.

The 81 to Stannington and Nethergate are terminating at Malin Bridge along with the 82 to Hall Park Head.

The 83 and 83b to Bents Green and Ecclesfield are operating along main roads only

The 95 and 95a to Meadowhall is terminating at Firth Park.

The 120 to Crystal Peaks and Halfway is terminating at Manor Top.

The 120 to Fulwood is terminating at Ranmoor.

The X5, X55 and 216 to Dinnington and Thurcroft are unable to serve Fence Hill, Swallownest.

In Doncaster, the number 15 service in Edlington, is operating via Edlington Lane to Tait Avenue. It is not operating on Stubbins Hill, Roberts Road, Clark Avenue and Hatter Drive.

The X78 is not running to Conisbrough Centre. Services are operating via Doncaster Road and Sheffield Road.

In Rotherham, the 26 to Whiston, is unable to use Cowrakes Lane and the 114 to Herringthorpe is not operating on the Dovedale Road estate.

The 137 service to Blackburn is also expected to be delayed because of a bus stuck on West Hill.

Stagecoach’s service 19 is unable to serve South Anston in both directions.

The firm’s service 2 from Sheffield to Barnsley is not serving Hoyland village

Its 219 and 219a services are using main roads only, and buses will not service Upperwood Road or Snape Hill.

Service 21a is not serving Gilroyd, Cubley, Springvale or Oxspring.

The 43 and 44 will be using main roads only.

Stagecoach’s 52 will b terminating at Broomhill.

Stagecoach’s number 7 is missing out Coisley Hill and the 72 and 72a are only serving main roads.

Its 72 from Chapeltown to Manvers is only serving main roads.

Stagecoach’s 83a is running via Wordsworth Avenue and Southey Green Road and terminating at Hunters Bar.
