Details of the biggest changes to bus services in the Dearne Valley and Doncaster for almost 20 years have been announced by Stagecoach Yorkshire.

The company will be making a number of improvements to its Dearne Valley bus network, which connects with Doncaster, from July 20.

The move comes after feedback received from customers, members of the public and stakeholders and will see Stagecoach introducing new services to improve links across the area.

Paul Lynch, managing director, Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “We held a month-long consultation with customers, members of the public and stakeholders and this provided us with some great feedback, which we have used to help shape our network.

“We have taken on board the suggestions we received from the public and used these to develop the new services, frequency changes and route extensions, which are all designed to make travelling by bus in the Dearne Valley and Doncaster even easier.”

The new service 220, which goes from Doncaster to Mexborough, Wath and Wombwell, will now extend from Wath to Cortonwood via Manvers Way, Old Moor, Park Street, Wombwell High Street, Main Street, Wombwell Rail Station and Dearne Valley Parkway. It will also provide a new hourly evening and Sunday service.

Earlier buses – the 220/222 – will run from Doncaster to Manvers and there will also be improvements to punctuality and reliability on service 222 from Barnsley to Wombwell, Manvers, Mexborough and Doncaster.

Service 219 from Barnsley to Goldthorpe, Sprotbrough and Doncaster will benefit from increased frequencies between Great Houghton, Thurnscoe and Doncaster.

A new evening timetable is introduced on service 42 between Doncaster and Scawsby providing an hourly bus.

After customer requests, all journeys on service 70 – Doncaster White Rose Park and Ride – will now serve all bus stops on White Rose Way between the roundabout with the A6182 and the Park and Ride site.

Service 224 is being replaced by service 219 between Doncaster and Goldthorpe, with an improved 30-minute frequency throughout the daytime on Mondays to Saturdays.
