M18 is reopened after police incident in Doncaster – but officers refuse to say why they closed it
The M18 was closed this morning due to a police incident – but officers have refused to say why.
The motorway was closed for around half an hour before finally being re-opened at around 11am. Tailbacks had built up.
South Yorkshire Police refused to provide details of why the road was closed when contacted by the Free Press, beyond describing it as a ‘police incident’.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service, who usually attend serious car crashes, said they were not involved in dealing with any incidents on the M18 this morning.
Highways England said at 11.20am that South Yorkshire Police had “advised that all traffic has now been released following the closure they had in place” in both directions between junction four and junction five.
The stretch of motorway which runs from junctions four and five is between Armthorpe, near the Ikea distribution centre, and the Hatfield Services service station.
