Officials at Doncaster Council announced last night that the bridge that crosses the carriageway, over the bypass, and takes traffic into the centre of Mexborough would be closed today after engineers raised structural concerns.

But today, the bus operator Stagecoach said its services would be delayed for three weeks because of the work.

They added: "Urgent bridge repairs are needed to be undertaken on the Mexborough fly over, as a result the flyover will be closed on Friday 7th May from 9.30am, for 24 hours, for a total of three weeks.”

The main A6023 Greens Way remains open in both directions.
