While schoolchildren are well-known devotees to their phones and video games, research carried out to launch the company's latest hotel openings - including family-focussed South Bank hotel Park Plaza London Waterloo www.parkplaza.com/waterloo - suggests changes could be afoot.

The poll, which delved in to youngsters’ desires for today's half term start, revealingly put tech-related activities like blogging bottom of the table, behind 32 other options, while playing video games failed to feature in top ten.

A wide range of more traditional capital ideas were much more popular including flying a kite (no. 9), ice-skating (5), riding a boat ride (18) or visiting attractions such as top of the Shard (24).

Half hailed zoos top of the list when it came to the places they’d most like to visit, closely followed by London Eye (48%) and aquarium (44%), both conveniently located next door to Park Plaza’s four South Bank hotels.

Furthermore, with two of ten bucket list interests being financially focused - 34% wanting to open a bank account and 32% wanting to earn their own money - it seems financial independence is increasingly what really matters to most kids.

When asked what they’d most like to do before they hit their teens, surprisingly only 15% said meeting the Royals was up there, with 29 activities seen as more important, including visiting museums and going to see favourite artists play live.

Based on these findings, a handy bucket list has been created to inspire adults, looking for ideas on how to keep the family entertained during this week's school holidays, available at London Revealed www.londonrevealed.co.uk an online hub and city guide.

The digital portal aims to bring the capital city to life with guides on best places to visit, blog posts featuring local tips and advice on hidden gems. The site, launched by Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, celebrates a collection of new contemporary hotels in London including Park Plaza London Waterloo, Park Plaza London Park Royal and Park Plaza London Riverbank.
