Time capsule buried on site of new UTC

Student council members were joined by the Humber UTC Principal Andrew Downing, Project Manager Sonia Allen and North Lincolnshire Council leader Liz Redfern for the occasion.

The time capsule, previously presented to students by Mayor of North Lincolnshire Trevor Foster, was filled with photographs, clothing and other items that depict life in 2015.

Driven by a partnership comprising local businesses – North Lincolnshire Council, University of Hull, North Lindsey College, and Outwood Grange Academies Trust – the Humber UTC will provide 150 places for students aged between 14 to 19 years old this September, growing to 600 places by 2018.

The Humber UTC will give its students technical experience in renewables and engineering, alongside core subjects such as English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science.

Teaching staff who are due to start at the Humber UTC in September toured the site this week. Student tours take place in August.

The recent announcement from DONG Energy of a new major operational hub at the Able Marine Energy Park cements the Humber estuary as a leading UK centre for renewable energy. The Humber UTC is in a great place to provide the skilled workforce needed to support development in this area.”
