Three people have died and another is in hospital with life threatening injuries after they were hit by a car in a Doncaster village.

A 24-year-old driver of a blue Volvo S60 has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

The crash happened around 10.50pm last night at the junction of Sutton Road and Manor Way, Askern.

Police have said that four pedestrians were involved in the collision. Two woman, aged 53 and 54, and a 59-year-old man died as a result of their injuries.

A 59-year old man is still critical in hospital at this time.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and he remains in police custody this morning.
