The iconic red kiosk in Doncaster Market Place will go up for auction later this month – with hopes that it might be bought by someone to turn into a quirky business.

Previous boxes that have gone up for sale across the country have been turned into coffee shops, libraries, flower shops, museums and bakeries.

The advertising brochure lists the kiosk as ‘opposite 14 Market Place’ with a guide price of £6,000 and the potential for monthly mortgage payments.

While it says there is ‘no floorplan,’ under key features it states: “Own an iconic piece of British heritage.

“Run your own business, advertising potential or alternative uses.

"Electricity is connected and kiosk to be re-painted.”

It adds: “These historic listed "K6" red phone boxes or “Jubilee” kiosks, commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the coronation of King George V.

"These boxes are 8'3" high and 3ft square.

"They were originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, who also designed Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral, Battersea Power Station and Bankside Power Station, now the Tate Modern.

"Historic England have listed to preserve these iconic red kiosks, and many have transformed them to coffee shops, libraries, flower shops, museums, bakeries, and defibrillators.”

However, while an original kiosk, the phone box is a relatively recent addition to the Market Place, installed only in the recent past to blend in with the area.

It will go on sale in an online auction on June 29.
