The pensioner was upstairs in his home in Stanley Gardens, Stainforth when he heard a noise and realised the property was missing when he went downstairs to investigate.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the burglary that happened at about 10.30pm on Sunday.

Officers investigating the matter would particularly like to speak to the man who saw the two alleged offenders during that evening.

Detective Constable Ian Jefferies, the investigating officer, said: “We are extremely keen to trace the man who is believed to have approached the two alleged offenders and then returned the stolen property to its owner.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw anyone acting suspiciously.”
