worshippers in Tickhill are rallying round to maintain their Norman church.

Recent events held in the town have boosted the funds of the Conserving the Future Heritage Appeal to conserve the long-term future of St Mary’s Church.

The work to preserve the fabric of the church for future generations will safeguard the medieval stained glass, carry out essential repairs to the masonry, and preserve important monuments on the tower and within the historic church.

The total cost of the work is in the region of £195,000.

Some of the sum will be funded by English Heritage, with St Mary’s congregation having to raise around £70,000 of the total.

The concert held in church recently brought in £141, funds grew by a further £1,452 as a result of the open gardens afternoon, and the sponsored walk to the nearby village of Styrrup and back collected £1,099.

Other events including a tea afternoon, book sale and Sixties night will be taking place over the next few months.
