Theft warning to Isle householders

Thieves are about, and items such as golf clubs, cycles, or fishing equipment, along with gardening tools, are not safe in insecure garden sheds or outbuildings.

Police warn these are of a reasonably high value and can be sold on to other people.

Simple steps such as putting property away after use may stop opportunist thieves. A small investment in shed and garage security, on an alarm and suitable locks with additional lighting may deter more determined offenders.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Houchin, one of the force leads for burglary said: “If people added up the value of the items they keep in their sheds, they would very often be quite surprised. They are not naturally strong structures and therefore inherently vulnerable to crime.

“As is often the case, simple steps can significantly reduce this vulnerability. I’d urge everyone to heed the advice given in this burglary campaign to make life as difficult as possible for criminals to succeed.”

People can register property on www.immobilise.com so it can be identified and returned if lost or stolen, and by calling Humberside Police with information about crime in their community. Call police if you see people acting suspiciously, if there is a burglary in progress or if you have information about crime, using 999 in an emergency, 101 in a non emergency or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
