The legendary Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo will be appearing for the first time at the Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield from Tuesday 5 to Wednesday 6 April. They will be performing the classics Swan Lake Act II/Pas de Deux and Go for Barocco/Raymonda’s Wedding in their own unique and hilarious way.
Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo is an all-male company of 16 professionals who perform and bring to life some of the greatest moments of classical ballet, all with a wink, a nudge and a tongue in their cheek. Affectionately known as The Trocks, they tread a fine line between high art and high camp in a fusion that celebrates both the beauty and the essential absurdity of classical ballet. The dancers perform en pointe in glittering tutus, combining a loving knowledge of dance with a wicked sense of fun.
Their comedic shows are achieved by incorporating and exaggerating the foibles and accidents of serious dance. The men dance all the parts, muscular bodies delicately balance on toes as swans, sylphs, water sprites, romantic princesses and even angst-ridden Victorian ladies! The Trocks’ original purpose was, and continues to be, to bring the pleasure of dance to the widest possible audience.
Winners of the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards and the TMA Theatre Award, The Trocks’ combination of pure comedy, extraordinary technical prowess and genuine love of ballet have made them a global phenomenon since they formed in New York in 1974. Under the artistic direction of Tory Dobrin, the company has performed in over 30 countries and in over 500 cities around the world.
Don’t miss the world-renowned Trocks on the Lyceum stage for the first time from Tuesday 5 – Wednesday 6 April 2011. Tickets are available from £19.50 - £26.50 with discounts available. To book, contact Sheffield Theatres Box Office on 0114 249 6000 or visit the website at sheffieldtheatres.co.uk.
