The Disability Games come to North Lincolnshire

The Pods (pictured) in Scunthorpe is all set to host the Rotary District Disability Games on Sunday 26 April with over 450 competitors expected to take part.

This event that covers Yorkshire and Lincolnshire regions will see competitors travelling from all across the region - from Bridlington to Boston and everywhere else in between.

The games will be split between The Pods and Appleby Frodingham Sports Club. Some of the areas at the leisure centre will be unavailable on the day.

Half of the main pool will be closed until 1pm, but then fully available to the public after. The learner pool will be available all day. The sports hall, both studios and the free weights area in the gym will be closed to the public all day.

The classes due to take part in the studios will be taking place at Riddings Pool instead.

The games that will be held at The Pods include:

Boccia, New Age Curling and wheelchair races in the sports hall

25m and 50m swimming races in the main pool

Table tennis in the Energy Studio

Shooting in the Wellness Studio

Weightlifting in the free weights area in the gym

The Rotary Disability Games is organised by Rotary District 1270 club to give adults with a disability the opportunity to take part in competitive sporting activities.

Simon Cross, Operations Manager at The Pods, said: “It is great that we have been chosen to host this year’s Rotary Disability Games. The Pods is a fantastic venue with state-of-the-art facilities. It is ideal for hosting events such as this. We are expecting over 450 competitors, which will be a brilliant turnout.

“Some of our facilities will be temporarily unavailable during the event. However we have made arrangements for the fitness classes to go-ahead at Riddings Pool and the pool will be open from 1pm. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
