The Lake Superior State student was named a 2015-16 All-Great Lakes Inter-Collegiate Athletic Conference Honourable Mention recipient – an award made to those players who just missed out on the top individual honours - following his success as the team’s No 1 singles player.

Prime won ten of his 12 single matches during the season after being promoted from the No 2 spot in his first year on the circuit.

Prime and freshman partner Luis Valderrama, who finished the season strongly, won 13 of the 21 doubles playing as the team’s No 2 pairing.

“Jake’s talent has always been impressive, but this year he was able to show how important it truly is to put the hard work in during the off-season,” said LSSU interim men’s and women’s tennis coach Luke Ogren.

“He is truly an incredible role model for anybody looking to be an outstanding student-athlete at the collegiate level.”

The 20-year-old will play for the Doncaster men’s side this season as well as helping out with the club’s thriving junior programme.

“I feel that my game has improved and I’m a better player than I was 12 months ago,” said Prime at the Doncaster club’s Saxton Avenue base.

Prime will return to the States at the end of the summer for the penultimate year of his college course.
