A taste of rural life at Edale Country Day

Legendary in walking circles as the start of the Pennine Way, the tiny Derbyshire village of Edale comes alive every June with its annual celebration of country life.

With music, dance, rural crafts, vintage vehicles, children’s activities, and plenty of high quality stalls, Edale Country Day has become one of the unmissable events in the Peak District calendar.

This year’s show on Sunday 12th June will feature plenty of animals; from the traditional sheep and poultry, to the ever popular dog and duck herding display. This year’s special animal attraction is The Wild Road Show, with a selection of animals, such as snakes and spiders, which you hopefully won’t meet on a walk through the beautiful Edale Countryside.

“Our brilliant team have been working flat out to make sure there’s something for everyone,” says organiser Angela Bradley. “There’s always something new for all the people who come back year after year and still say it’s the best day out in the Peak District.”

One of the highlights of the day is the welcoming-in of the fell-runners, who cross the finishing line around mid-day in the Edale Fell Race, part of the Accelerate Gritstone 2016 series.

The village playing field provides a fun filled environment where families want to come and spend the whole day, so there is an excellent selection of food and drink available on site. The tea tent is packed full of quality homemade food, and a barbecue runs all day cooking burgers, sausage and bacon from Watson’s Farm Shop, situated just down the road from the show. If that wasn’t enough there will also be freshly made pizzas from the Edale Wood Fired Pizza Company, as well as a licensed bar.
