Residents living near Bankwood Lane, in Rossington, have complained over dust and lorries in the area as vehicles use the local roads to access the industrial estate.

They have complained to Doncaster Council, as well as Rossington Parish Council, over the issue.

Rossington Parish Council chairman Barry Johnson said people had been concerned about the number of lorries using the roads.

He said: “It is quite a significant tonnage. The issue is traffic coming down West End Lane in the early hours of the morning, past St Michael’s, Tornedale and Holmescarr schools.

“Now the FARRRS road is there we’d like a new road from the industrial estate to FARRRS without going past the new houses.”

He said some businesses had offered to contribute towards the cost of a new road.

Doncaster Council has confirmed there are talks going on to try to bring in a new road.

Peter Dale, the authority’s director of regeneration and environment, said: “We are currently working with businesses associated with the Bankwood industrial estate and adjacent developments looking at the feasibility of providing a new spur access into the industrial estate.

“The aim would be to alleviate issues some local residents are experiencing with HGVs.

“We are liaising with businesses to try to broker a deal and subject to ongoing negotiations we will be feeding back to the parish council in September to see if a scheme that is beneficial to both businesses and residents can be pulled together.”

The talks follow the opening of the link road between Rossington and the new Great Yorkshire Way airport link road, which has been known as FARRRS – the Finningley and Rossington Relief Road Scheme.

It takes traffic from junction three of the M18 into the village. Cars previously had to take Sheep Bridge Lane.
