Sweets for chemo patients thanks to North Lincolnshire charity

Life is a bit sweeter for cancer patients who can now enjoy a pic ‘n’ mix while undergoing their treatment at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

Patients undergoing chemotherapy are being provided with a selection of sweets thanks to The Health Tree Foundation, the new charity for Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.

Ward clerk Julie Lindo submitted a wish to the foundation for ward 18 to be able to provide boiled sweets for chemotherapy patients.

Staff from the charity were able to grant Julie’s wish and delivered a big box of hundreds of sweets to the ward – and has pledged to keep them stocked up.

Julie said: “I wanted to be able to provide boiled sweets for chemotherapy patients to take away the metallic taste in their mouth that often occurs when having treatment.”

Anyone can submit a wish to the Health Tree Foundation for funding for items for hospitals in Scunthorpe, Grimsby or Goole.
