The RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch has provided vital emergency care for swans caught in the recent outbreak of avian botulism at Lakeside, Doncaster. The National RSPCA Inspectorate team has collected and treated as many swans as possible and given them respite and care before they make their way to RSPCA specially equipped wildlife centres. Avian botulism  dramatically affecting the swan population in the Lakeside area, causing paralysis even proving fatal. At the RSPCA South Yorkshire Animal Centre, many of the rescued birds are expected to make a full recovery thanks to the intervention of the animal care team. The branch, based in Bawtry, helps over 400 wildlife species every year as well as its more well known work caring for dogs, cats, rabbits and other small mammals rescued from cruelty and neglect.
