As hostilities began to subside at the close of the Second World War a number of paintings from the exhibition were donated to the British Council by the Brazilian Government.

From there three of the paintings were passed to the Doncaster Museum Service.

The paintings have recently been conserved with generous funding from the Friends of Doncaster Museum. The colourful paintings, include ‘Pastoral’ by Luiz Soares, ‘Sailor’ by Oscar Meira and ‘Landscape’ by Thea Haberfield. Chairman of the Friends of Doncaster Museums, Dave Adgar, represented the group at the official opening of the exhibition by the Brazilian Ambassador and said: “It was a privilege to support the conservation of these three paintings and it was wonderful to see the enthusiasm their inclusion generated in the guests.”

The exhibition featuring the paintings is called ‘THE ART OF DIPLOMACY, BRAZILIAN MODERNISM PAINTED FOR WAR’, and it can be seen at the Embassy of Brazil, 14-16 Cockspur Street, London SW1Y 5BL, between April 6 and June 22.
