FIREFIGHTERS spent more than six hours tackling 400 tonnes of straw bails which had been set alight at a Doncaster farm.

Officers had to act quickly to stop the fire spreading to expensive machinery nearby.

They were called to Moss Carr Farm, in Heyworth Lane, Moss, around 3am on Friday morning.

A spokesman for the fire service said officers were still dampening down the bails shortly after 9am.

It is not yet known if the fire was deliberate. Nobody was injured.

Crews from Doncaster, Adwick and Thorne attended the scene.
