Stagecoach reassures passengers over strike

Bus operator Stagecoach Yorkshire has reassured passengers it will operate a near-normal level of service in Barnsley, Rotherham and the Dearne Valley despite planned strike action by the Unite trade union.

The majority of daytime bus services will continue to run tomorrow (Wednesday, January 4) and a special £1 flat single fare for adults will apply on the day of industrial action involving drivers. Megarider tickets, child and pensioners free passes will be accepted as normal.

Stagecoach has drafted in more than 100 managers and supervisors from across the company to minimise disruption for passengers and keep most services running between 7am and 6pm.

All Stagecoach buses in Sheffield and Chesterfield, including route 265 to Barnsley, and all those operated by Stagecoach East Midlands in south Rotherham and Doncaster will run as normal and are unaffected by the industrial action.

It follows six days of strike action by drivers during November and December 2011.

The union has also announced it is planning to take strike action on Monday, January 16 2012.

A full list of services which will operate is available on Stagecoach’s website or by calling traveline on 0871 200 22 33.
