Staff axed at Kilnhurst Community Base

STAFF at Kilnhurst Community Base have been axed and the centre will be run entirely by volunteers.

Trustees said it was necessary to make two workers redundant to secure the future of the centre.

Vice Chair of the Action Group, Reverend Andy Brewerton, said: “It’s obviously a sad situation when we have to make redundancies.

“The trustees were determined to save the centre for the people of Kilnhurst, but the only way we could do that was for us to become volunteer led.

“I’m very grateful for our small but dedicated team who are working together to keep the doors open.”

The centre will continue to host a wide range of activities every week including line dancing, Tai Chi, a family history group and bingo sessions.

Reverend Brewerton added: “We’re always keen for more people to take advantage of the facilities and join in with what we provide.

“It’s a bright modern building – owned by the residents of Kilnhurst and is available to hire for events, groups and activities.

“We’d also love to hear from any local people who would like to offer to join our volunteer team.”
