Sports teams pair up for campaign

Two Yorkshire sports teams have joined forces to tackle the devastating effects of dometic abuse on children.

Players from Doncaster Rugby League and Doncaster Rovers Belles LFC have teamed up on a short film to highlight how domestic abuse harms young people.

The video is part of the Growing Futures campaign, led by Doncaster Children’s Services Trust, and will be shown at matches and on public screens in the region.

Phil Hayden, Growing Futures project manager, said: “Doncaster has some real challenges around levels of domestic abuse and people very often see it as just an adult issue, but children in families where there is domestic abuse really do suffer too. It creates an unsafe and an unhappy environment for them to live in, and this is damaging to the emotional development of these youngsters.

“The support from Doncaster Rugby League and Doncaster Rovers Belles LFC is helping us spread the vital message that domestic abuse harms children – but there is help out there.

“We believe that life doesn’t have to be like this.”
