Thursday, February 4, is Harry Potter Book Night celebrating the world of wizards and muggles and in Rotherham Libraries there will be family fun events taking place that evening and in the following week.

A Night of Spells not only introduces young people to the wizarding world of JK Rowling but also to the magic of books and reading. Non-wizard muggles too are welcome to join in the games, activities, readings and quizzes, once they have been sorted into a Hogwarts school house team for the evening’s activities.

These could include a Harry Potter fancy dress competition, designing your own house shield, treasure hunts round the library, tricky trivia quizzes, puzzles and, of course, readings from Harry Potter stories! Come along dressed in your best Potteresque costume to enjoy an event that’s fun for all the family.

Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Working and Cultural Services Cllr Taiba Yasseen said: “Harry Potter has been a global phenomenon which has helped introduce a lot of children, as well as adults, to the wonders of reading. Many young people are fans of the Harry Potter books - where words transport you into a world of magic where anything and everything is possible.

“The various events happening within libraries across Rotherham promise an exciting and fun time for all who attend.”

The events happening in each library across Rotherham will vary, so Harry Potter fans need to check with their local library for what is being planned and when.
