Applications for police officer vacancies at South Yorkshire Police are still being sifted through.

A total of 3,238 people registered interest in 369 police officer vacancies with South Yorkshire Police in March - 3,117 from external candidates and 121 internally.

Of those, 959 made it through to the next stage, where they had to complete application forms, which are due to be marked by May 30.

South Yorkshire Police received 695 completed applications.

Those invited to assessment centres in July, August and October will find out next month.

The first recruits will start training courses in January, February and March.

The new bobbies will replace hundreds set to retire after clocking up 30 years of service.
