The pilot whose light aircraft was landed by a passenger in a major emergency at Humberside Airport last night has died.

It is understood the man, who took off from Sandtoft Airfield, near Belton, is from the South Yorkshire area but no details have been released by Humberside Police.

The male passenger, also unidentified, was given instructions from the control tower on how to land the single-engined plane, which he successfully completed on the fourth attempt.
