South Yorkshire League: Tickhill stay on course for promotion

Tickhill won by four wickets at Rockingham to remain clear at the top of the Championship.

In a rain affected game, the hosts posted 167-9 from 38 overs. Skipper Nazakat Khan made a determined 61.

Hammond Jamal took 3-50 and Alex Rowland claimed 3-35.

Tickhill’s reply featured 30 from Michael Jepps and a typically aggressive 42 not out from skipper Jordan Lowe.

The league leaders reached their target with five overs and four wickets to spare.

Conisbrough continued their pursuit of a promotion position with an easy victory over relegation threatened Rotherham Town at Clifton Lane.

Openers Joe Farmer (76) and Stuart Coleman (31) were the main contributors in the away side’s 184-8 from 46 overs.

Irfan Mirza took 3-36 and Arslan Tariq 3-22.

Rotherham had little answer to Conisbrough’s strike duo of Arosh Janoda and Ben Sommerville.

Janoda was devastating, clean bowling four victims in his 5-37. Sommerville proved difficult to handle too, with 3-17.

Town were skittled out for 89, after being 40-8 at one stage. Tailender Abid Younas restored some pride with 32 not out.

Conisbrough are hot on second-placed Elsecar’s tale with just three points separating the two teams before this Saturday’s clash at St Peter’s Drive.

Sprotbrough continued their good debut season in the Championship by beating Wath by 76 runs at Melton Road.

The home side’s impressive total of 282-6 was built on good contibutions from opener Gordon Laidlaw with 43, Richard Belk with 31, Eknoor Singh with 57 and Ashley Langdale with 30.

Charlie Kaye finished the job with 70 not out - an innings which included eight fours and two sixes, and was achieved in 52 balls.

Wath’s reply reached 206-6 which included 34 from skipper Rob Barlow, 40 from James Barnard and 51 not out from Johnson Plater.
