South Yorkshire League round-up: Tickhill record third straight win

Tickhill continued their rise up the South Yorkshire League Championship with a comfortable six wicket win at home Kexborough.

The Alderson Drive club now sit fifth in the table after three successive victories.

Kexborough batted first and Hedar Rasool top scored with 32 in their total of 152 all out.

Dominic McGough added another excellent performance to his tally this season by claiming 4-38, while Josh Court took care of the tail with 4-8.

In reply Matthew Kilvington opened with 33 and Aaron Haycock scored 37 as Tickhill coasted to victory.

Conisbrough again found runs easy to come by but met their match at Elsecar, who moved into second spot with a six wicket win.

The visitors batted first and opener Michael Blakemore hit a swashbuckling 40, including seven fours.

Skipper Nathan Smith (26) and Gary Strephan (29) looked set to make a big impact until Scott Jones removed both of them and the score was restricted to 221 all out.

Shahzad Rana took 4-56 and Jones 3-43.

Elsecar’s Paul Cummins and Ainsley Swallow shared a second wicket stand of 131 to lay firm foundations for victory. Cummins deaprted for 89 but Swallow saw events to a conclusion with an excellent 82 not out and a boundary count of 11 fours and two sixes.

Smith took 3-40 for Conisbrough.

Wath occupy third position in the table following a 76-run win at Darfield.

The high fliers batted first and got off to a poor start, losing their first two batsmen for just two runs.

Skipper Rob Barlow (53) and William Cooper (45) helped the visitors up to 160 all out.

Waqas Maqsood took 3-39, Lesroy Weekes claimed 3-18 and Haider Jahangir took 4-47.

The Darfield innings collapsed to 84 all out with Luke Ogden top scoring with 25.

Steven Johnson took 3-26 and Sam Whitlam was outstanding with 4-9.

In Division One, Sprotbrough maintained their challenge for promotion at Melton Road with a good win over Norton Oakes.

Skipper David Revill (55) and Tom Keys (36) top scored in Norton’s total of 166-9. Michael Threapleton took 3-42.

In reply Adam Kaye (42) and Richard Belk (33) compiled an opening stand of 84 before Jake Wigney (29 not out) and Nick Boxall (38 not out) saw Sprotbrough to victory with a unbeaten fifth wicket stand of 62.

Tickhill B moved into the Division Two promotion places with a four wicket win at lowly Worsbrough Bridge. Richard Coyle (4-45) starred with the ball before James Doyle (52no) steered his team to victory.

Fifth-placed Warmsworth won by 107 runs at Woolley.
