South Yorkshire League: Doncaster clubs frustrated by wet weather

Tickhill and Conisbrough's run chases were halted by the rain on a frustrating weekend of action in the South Yorkshire League.

In-form Tickhill were close to another Championship victory at Houghton Main when the downpour came.

Houghton posted 159 all out, with Australian Ollie Hayes top scoring with 31.

James Stuart is finding good form and took the first six wickets to fall, claiming a final analysis of 6-38.

Alex Rowland finished the job with 3-13.

In reply, Dominic McGough (33) and Stuart (58) impressed.

Tickhill needed 22 runs for victory with five wickets intact when the play was curtailed.

Whiston Parish Church travelled to Conisbrough and were soon in trouble at 85-6 with Andy Tomlinson making 20.

That Whiston were able to fashion a challenging total was thanks mainly to Steve Taylor. He provided an imperious innings and made an unbeaten 106.

Whiston posted 211 all out in 47.1 overs. Arosh Janoda took 3-39 for Conisbrough.

The match was interestingly poised, with Conisbrough on 69-3 from 21 overs, when the rain came.

Wath scored 178 all out against Collegiate B at Moor Road. South African Shaun Dyson scored 39 and Sam Whitlam hit a bright and breezy 35.

Ben Fielding took 3-38 and Thomas Eldred 3-48 for the visitors.

Collegiate were also close to success, at 152-5 when the weather intervened. Tom Hancock was 49 not out

In Division One, Aston Hall B scored 175-6 against high flying Sprotbrough.

Will Scott hit 51 and Dean Smith was 52 not out, as they added 93 runs for the fourth wicket.

Jonathan Scaife took 4-54 for Sprotbrough.

Sprotbrough’s innings had just begun and they were 17-1 when the match was abandoned.

Warmsworth scored 177-4 against Phoenix United B in Division Two.

Skipper Liam Marshall hit an excellent 75 and Ryan Pearson was 32 not out at the close.

Phoenix United were 25-2 when the match ended.

Frecheville amassed 244-9 against Tickhill B at Alderson Drive.

Todd Saxelby hit an exquisite 83 from 61 balls, Adam Buckle scored 34, Daniel Froggatt 36 and Bradley Cornthwaite 31.

Daniel Lovell took 4-69 and Jake Wildsmith 3-80.

In reply Tickhill looked to be heading for defeat at 88-4. Paul Shepherd had opened with 33.

Mexborough’s lead at the top of Division Three East looks precarious after they crashed to a surprise ten wicket defeat at Fishlake.

Mexborough were bowled out for just 94 and Fishlake knocked off the required runs without loss.
