Laura and Craig Senior decided to take on the Four Fells Challenge to raise money for MacMillian Cancer Support after losing weight and improving their fitness.

Laura said: “Each year, we help with fundraising and charity events with our family, friends and colleagues.

“In the past we have raised money for various charities, but this year we have both changed jobs so we haven’t been as involved in fundraising and charity events as we would have liked to have been.

“We have recently become much fitter and healthier thanks to attending Slimming World at Wath Montgomery Hall, so we wanted to do an active challenge while raising money for charity.”

We decided to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, as cancer has probably affected everybody in some way throughout their life. Whether you have had cancer, are currently being treated, or had to see a loved one go through the battle, it affects everyone.

“We have lost brothers, grandparents and close family friends over the years, so we know how vital Macmillan Cancer Support can be.

“When we think of the reasons why we are doing this, any doubts or nerves soon disappear.”

In the tough multi-peak event the pair, who have lost eight stone between them, will summit England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike, as well as Bow Fell, Esk Pike and Great End.

To prepare, they have been completing walks around Wath, Swinton, Bolton-upon-Dearne, Mexborough and Wombwell, each averaging eight miles .

Laura added: “This will be the first time that we have taken part in an event like this, so we are excited.

“The total distance is only 13 miles, but it is like a rollercoaster with the climbs and drops. We have the support of each other along the way.

“We have a combined fundraising target of £500 and we are also running a few charity events through work and within the local community so we’re hopeful that we can exceed this target.”

The duo are running a raffle throughout April, with prizes so far including donations from local businesses the Tropical Butterfly House Wildlife and Falconry Centre, Sheffield, Wigfield Farm, Barnsley, Carlton Park Hotel, Rotherham and South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum, Doncaster.

Laura, aged 28, and 29-year-old Craig will take on the challenge on Saturday June 18. To donate, visit the online donation page at www.justgiving.com/teams/Senior.
