The successful completion of the first phase of new-build homes has provided much-needed high quality affordable homes for families in Sheffield. Supporting the Homes and Communities Agency’s local investment strategy for the Sheffield City Region, the scheme meets the requirement to cater for the demands of Sheffield’s growing population.

Situated less than a mile south east of Sheffield city centre, the completion of phase one met a range of housing requirements providing 88 new homes consisting of a mix of two bed bungalows and two and three bed houses all available for affordable rent. The scheme also meets Sheffield City Council’s aspiration to work with partners to make the area a better place to live. Phase two and three will culminate in 75 new two, three and four bed family homes.

The units, designed by DK Architects, are environmentally friendly and sustainable with 25% of the new homes meeting Sheffield Mobility Standard. With a striking mixture of houses, features include a stone wall along the front boundary in keeping with materials used at Sheffield Manor Lodge, a nearby 16th century manor lodge.

With phase two and three now underway – expected to be completed by March 2017 – the new homes aim to enhance a sustainable community where people will choose to live and work. Phase three will include an attractive public open space for use by the local community.

Matthew Harrison, Great Places Housing Group chief executive officer, said: “We are delighted with the progress of the new development which caters for the changing needs of Sheffield’s residents by creating a new gateway for the inner city of Sheffield. The development aims to promote social and economic mobility and inclusion, creating a real sense of community for our tenants.”

Completion of phase two and three will meet the key objectives set by Great Places’ Development Strategy to provide high-quality homes for affordable rent in an existing core area of the Group’s operation.
